Green Areas and seIsmic observAtories
GAIA – Green Areas and seIsmic observAtories is a research and development project aimed at making cities safer, more sustainable, and smarter. By integrating advanced technologies such as IoT sensors, cloud platforms, and artificial intelligence, GAIA enables real-time monitoring of urban infrastructure and the environment, transforming data into practical decision-support tools.
At the core of the project are WiseSensing sensors: intelligent, wireless, and self-powered devices designed for the continuous monitoring of structures and the surrounding environment.
The project is intended for public authorities and land management organizations, providing innovative solutions to address increasingly critical challenges such as seismic risk, hydrogeological instability, and urban green space management.

Il progetto si rivolge a enti pubblici e gestori del territorio, offrendo soluzioni innovative per affrontare sfide sempre più attuali come il rischio sismico, il dissesto idrogeologico e la gestione del verde urbano.
A challenge for the
territory
Umbria is a region characterized by high seismic activity and significant exposure to hydrogeological risks. Over the years, numerous natural events have highlighted the vulnerability of buildings, infrastructure, and urban areas, making the need for advanced monitoring and prevention tools increasingly evident.
At the same time, effective land and urban green space management requires continuous oversight and a thorough understanding of environmental conditions—information that is often difficult to obtain using traditional methods. In this context, adopting an innovative, data-driven approach based on reliable and up-to-date information becomes essential to support timely decision-making and enhance the safety and sustainability of cities.
Classificazione sismica del territorio italiano. Le aree sono suddivise in zone in base alla pericolosità sismica: dalla Zona 1 (alta pericolosità) alla Zona 4 (bassa pericolosità).

OVU - Urban Green Areas Observatory
The Urban Seismic Observatory is GAIA’s system dedicated to structural monitoring of buildings. Thanks to WiseSensing sensors installed on structures, it is possible to detect vibrations, stress, and changes in building behavior in real time.
The system enables:
The Urban Green Observatory is GAIA’s module dedicated to environmental monitoring of green areas. By integrating data from WiseSensing sensors and other sources (satellites, environmental sensors), the system provides a complete overview of the state of the territory.

- supporting emergency management by providing objective data for rapid decision-making
- monitoring tree stability
- preventing risks related to hydrogeological instability
- analyzing air quality and environmental conditions
